Farmers have access to the hay at a great bargain price

Jim Wanserski’s story here is local farmers are looking for hay to feed their animals due to the extreme heat and dry summer we had last year. Most farmers used all of their reserve hay last winter.

The Vista’s hay will go to the Salzman family to feed their horses, goats, and young beef cattle. Sold the hay at my cost of gas to cut and rake. They were elated to have access to the hay at a great bargain price.

This is the first time in 11 years that I have not raised monarch butterflies! The scientists report that this is due to a combination of problems. The droughts in Texas, pesticides & loss of their habitats (milkweed plants) due to building & mowing habits . It is so sad because this is such a beautiful process. If anyone sees a monarch butterfly, let me know. They migrate from central Mexico as far north as Ontario. Canada has not seen 1 butterfly this year :(. Even Greenwood Hills golf course has not seen any. On a lighter note, the Green Vistas roads are lined with beautiful Queen Anne’s Lace plants .. I have a bouquet in my house. When they start to dry, they curl upward & form into a birds nest shape sometimes used in dried flower arrangements. 🙂

The Vistas at Greenwood Hills in Wausau

July 17, 2013 — Summer is flying by quickly and nesting is in full swing at the Vistas at Greenwood Hills! Wood ducks have hatched and are enjoying their nests! Painted turtle nests have been sighted on the trails at the Vistas’ conservancy. A family is preparing to build a new “nest” on the 3rd fairway of Greenwood Hills. Another site has been sold to a young family with a little one and they will be building their “nest” soon. Summer is rushing by, so slow down and take some time to enjoy the season. Come visit the Vistas at Greenwood Hills and pick out a “NEST” of your own!

Walk and enjoy the trails at Vista’s at Greenwood Hills

Things are in full swing here at the Vista’s! Just wrapped up a very successful parade of homes tour at the spec home at 1809 Green vistas Dr. We’re very excited that Jim can finally groom the trails after our weather was so resistant to spring. The wild flowers are in bloom and beautiful – you really need to come and see the funky Goats Beard plants popping up everywhere. Walk and enjoy the trails with all of it’s sights and sounds. More on the sounds in our next blog – you are not going to want to miss it. But in the meantime come and visit us here at the Vista’s at Greenwood Hills!

What was Mother Nature doing to my feathered friends?

As a former flight attendant, I ‘d say they were in a holding pattern somewhere over warmer weather. However, all is well now…the bluebirds nesting boxes are busy and the mallards and wood ducks are building nests on the ponds in the conservancy (trails are open to the public).

Even the frogs are happy…you can hear their songs at night and see all the new tadpoles daily. We also have a Mr. and Mrs. Sandhill Crane mating in the cornfields by the Vistas (what a dance). Life is beautiful and bustling out here…come visit 😀

Vistas at Greenwood Hills - Bluebirds

Now it’s time to think blue… Blue skies, Virginia Bluebells and Eastern Bluebirds.

The conservancy at the Vistas at Greenwood Hills (which is open to the public) has a huge patch of bluebells along the walking path that will come to life in a few weeks – breathtaking!

Greenwood Hills Golf Course is a member of the Audubon Society and specifically provides habitats for the bluebirds. The golf course, adjacent homes and the Vistas conservancy have many bluebird nesting boxes that are adopted by numerous people. They must clean out the boxes in the spring, discourage intruders and keep data on their nesting patterns. When they nest, how many eggs they lay, when the young fledge and if they nest again.

Linda will have a nesting box in her yard so watch for updates in the spring, summer and fall on these small wonders of nature.
